The Grand Deception

Arthur’s current project, The Grand Deception, is a tense mystery set on Mackinac Island, in 1976.

America is throwing itself a 200th birthday party, and the little island where cars are banned and fudge is king is decked out in red, white, and blue. But for the first four days of July, someone has been leaving bodies behind, along with coded messages no one can read. On the night of the Fourth, as fireworks burst over the Straits, the governor’s chief of staff is found dead at the Grand Hotel, a cryptic cipher tucked inside a box of poisoned fudge. The island goes into lockdown, and suspicion lands squarely on Stephanie Wylde, lifelong islander and owner of Wylde Fudge, because the last fudge the victim ever bought came from her shop. With her name on the suspect list and the killer’s pattern pointing toward the governor himself, Stephanie has thirty-six hours to crack the code, unmask a murderer hiding among her neighbors, and uncover a secret buried deep in the island’s past before the celebration ends in one more death.
